During the winter months, the eastern part of Mount Vitosha is the perfect setting for snow sports, such as skiing, snowboarding, cross-country and slalom skiing. The skiing area is just below Cherni Vruh (The Black Peak), Vitosha’s highest peak, which is also home to a restaurant that overlooks the capital city. Skiing season lasts all the way from December throughout late spring. This is when snow coverage is at its best. Whether you’re a novice skier or snowboarder, or of a more advanced level, the six Mount Vitosha runs are suitable for people of various ski and snowboarding levels. Beginning skiers can take ski lessons from professional ski instructors, and if you don’t own a pair of skis you can always rent them from the Aleko ski center.
Hiking
Another reason that makes Mount Vitosha worth your while is the pristine, unspoiled scenery. Visitors can explore Mount Vitosha by themselves, or they can book a hiking tour that will show them the best views from the mountain. Under direction of a professional tour guide, you can view phenomenon, such as the stone rivers near The Golden Bridges, the Boyana Waterfall, and Struma, which is Mount Vitosha’s biggest and longest river.
Other must-sees include a visit to historical monuments, such as the Church of Saint George, Boyana Church, and the Dragalevtzi Monastery. Bringing a camera is a must! The northern part of Mount Vitosha is perfect for a leisurely stroll to enjoy the calmness and tranquility, while the eastern part provides a more challenging hike, with good descents and ascents. It’s best to go hiking during the summer months, which stretch from June through September.
